The joint includes an internal flat tray for accommodating excess lengths of coiled cable or fibre. The optical fibre cables are grouped together in a protective envelope (16) and together pass through a cylindrical compression joint (3) which is coaxial with the base (4) of the connector. Around the perimeter of the base there is a thread (5) enabling this to be sealed to a cylindrical cover (6) which may include one or more cylindrical tubes (8) with an end cover (9). Attached to the base, within the cover, there is a flat support (11) with cable guides (14) which are able to accommodate excess lengths of coiled cable. On the outside of the casing the base has a threaded section (15b) which fits with a corresponding threaded sleeve (15a) formed on the end of the cable sleeve.
