PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the consumption of useless power by applying power supply control to an electronic camera suitably to its state and efficiently utilize the power by conducting the power supply control in response to the type of a recording medium. SOLUTION: The image pickup device is provided with a power supply section 10 that has 1st and 2nd voltage conversion means that convert power supply voltage into a prescribed voltage and provide an output, a circuit group 14 that operates each device component by receiving power from the power supply section 10, a control means 9 that conducts power control so as to select the 1st voltage conversion means or the 2nd voltage conversion means, and a recording medium detection means 110 that detects the kind of loaded recording media 11, 12. The control means conducts the power control in response to the kind of the recording medium detected by the recording medium detection means 110.
