PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the operation of a recording and reproducing device by typing a character string by a keyboard for electronic computer, and to inform a user about the candidate of a correct character string when the character string typed by the keyboard is wrong. SOLUTION: The recording and reproducing device is provided with a control section for controlling the operation as operation of an user requesting the operation when the character string shown by a code string inputted from an external keyboard through a keyboard interface section is the character string showing the operation of the recording and reproducing device stored in a memory or the code string of the character string having strong correlation with the character string, a display section for displaying the character string having strong correlation with the inputted code string when the code string to be inputted is different from the code string stored in the memory, and a code setting section for setting the input code string corresponding to an operation key.
