PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of reading color image by which image information from a color film after photographing is accurately read with enhanced distinguishability in a short time, converted into digital image information and utilized, and a color photographic sensitive material suitable for image formation by the read. SOLUTION: In the method of reading color image, a silver halide photosensitive material containing an IR absorbing dye in a middle layer is developed, the photoelectric read of image information from the resulting image by utilizing reflected light and the photoelectric read of image information from the image by utilizing transmitted light are carried out and two pieces of read image information are separately converted to blue, green and red pieces of electrical digital image information. The photosensitive material may have an antihalation layer containing a decolorable dye besides the middle layer and is used for the method for reading the color image.
