The seat for a motor vehicle has a base (12-18) fixed to the vehicle floor. A main seat (3a) extends longitudinally of the vehicle (L). It has a flexible cushion (19) carrying a rigid frame (20) with a safety bar (21) extending horizontally and across the front of the seat under the cushion. The seat is mounted for rotation on the base around a horizontal transverse axis at the rear of the seat. The safety bar is fixed to the frame so that the seat adjuster (26,29,31,33) pivots the whole seat to raise the front of the seat.
