The procedure, based on the continuous measurement of the tension in pairs of filaments (17) and detecting a variation in tension indicating the presence of a neutron, consists of determining which of two neighboring filaments is affected by the neutron by calculating for each of the filaments an integral value relative to the filament tension time, comparing the values and apportioning the neutron to the filament with the higher value. The instrument consists of a chamber (16) containing 1600 filaments (17), linked via processing modules (18) and optical fibres (20) to a central processing unit (22) and a micro-computer control unit (24).
