The invention concerns a device for controlling the writing width of a writing instrument using a nib (5). The adjustment controlled by the user results from the action on a component acting as ramp or wedge on the flexible blades of the nib. The elastic deformation at the ends (3) of the nib by bringing closer or spacing the two points produces a tapering or a broadening of the writing spacer (7) of the nib. The width of the stroke of ink deposited on paper while writing varies according to the dimensions of said spacer. The device provides the advantage of enabling constant adjustment at the user's will without having to change implement or pen.
