PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a channel assignment method in a mobile communication system by which the number of channels of a DSP can be increased by assigning excess performance of the DSP insufficient to assign a channel to a VOCODing mode to a channel driving only a bypass call and a data service call. SOLUTION: The method includes a step where it is judged whether a received call is a VOCODing call, a bypass call or a data service call, a step where the idleness of a channel is discriminated depending on the kind of the calls, and a step where when the presence of an idle exclusive channel corresponding to the received call is discriminated, the same exclusive channel is assigned to an exclusive channel corresponding to the kind of call and when no idle exclusive channel corresponding to the kind of the received call exists, the exclusive channel corresponding to the call received in response to the idle state of a mixed channel is assigned to the mixed channel.
