PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method of encoding digital contents are provided which adds special header information to original data and locates an encoding key area at the end of the original data to basically prevent data restoration performed by an invalid user. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for encoding digital contents has a file format constructed of a header region(10) in which header information encoded with a data encoding key is stored, a data region(20) for storing data encoded with the data encoding key, and an encoding key region(30) for storing a data encoding key encoded by a user key. The data region is located at the back of the header region. The encoding key region is placed at the back of the data region. When the encoding key region is restored by a user, the region is moved to the back of the header region.
