PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noises caused by striking and enhance the durability of peripheral parts by controlling if necessary the striking energy at the time when a striking piston strikes a shank rod. SOLUTION: A rock drill 1 for driving a steel pile includes a striking mechanism for striking the shank rod, and a rotating mechanism for imparting rotation to the shank rod. The rock drill bores a guide hole for driving the steel pile therein and drives the steel pile inserted in the guide hole. A striking point control piston 4 is provided for moving a striking point where the striking piston 11 strikes the shank rod, from a reference striking point where the striking energy is maximum to a forwarder low-energy striking point of the reference striking point A.
