PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader and an read method for appropriately obtaining an image signal even if the spectroscopic intensity distribution of reading emitted from a light source fluctuates in the image reader and the image read method for emitting read light from the light source, including image information and photoelectrically reading light. SOLUTION: In the image reader and the image read method, fluctuation quantity information of the spectroscopic intensity distribution of reading light emitted from a light source is obtained, adjusting information for adjusting an image signal with the fluctuation of spectroscopic intensity distribution is obtained by using fluctuation quantity information, and the image signal is adjusted based on obtained adjusting information.
