摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side monitoring device for vehicle to grasp the peripheral state of a vehicle at a low cost by detecting the approach degree of an object approaching the vehicle. SOLUTION: As shown in Fig. 1 (a), an approach degree detection means 51a processes composite images obtained by reducing and aligning the right and left photographed images respectively and detects the approach degree of an object approaching to its own vehicle from a side road crossing the vehicle. A danger decision means 51b decides danger from the detected approach degree of the object. Meanwhile, an image pickup means 1 photographs the right and left sides of the vehicle to obtain the right and left photographed images as shown in Fig. 1 (b). Then the means 51a processes a partial image positioned in the direction where the vehicle tries to travel or is traveling from the center line set between the upper and lower directions of the right and left photographed images and then detects the approach degree of an object approaching to the vehicle from a side road crossing the vehicle.
