PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a card from a card keeping part from being illegally drawen out. SOLUTION: The card reader is provided with a card running mechanism 2 for making a card 1 run and a card keeping part 3 for keeping the card 1 so that an unneccessary card 1 which is left without taking-out, etc., is carried by the mechanism 2 and kept in the part 3. The card reader is provided with a shutter mechanism 5 for permitting only the movement of the card 1 to the side of the part 3 at this side of a fall card carrying part 4 for permitting the card 1 to fall into the part 3.
