PURPOSE: A top cover locking device of an electric rice kettle is provided to effectively keep steamed rice warm by firmly locking a top cover with a body case and to prevent breakage of the top cover despite frequent opening of the top cover. CONSTITUTION: A top cover locking device of an electric kettle includes a hook(30) formed in a top cover(14), a slide button(40) mounted in a recessed groove(12a) formed in the front end of a body case(12) and related with the hook, and a movement restraining unit keeping the hook locked by elastically retaining the position of the slide button. As the slide button is elastically supported on a compression spring(50), closed state of the top cover is kept firmly. Upon stopping pressing the slide button after the top cover is opened, the slide button returns to the original position by the repulsive force of the compression spring. Then, a locking protrusion(41) formed in the lower end of the slide button is locked in a locking hole(12b) of the body case and the displacement of the slide button from the body case is restrained. As locking and unlocking of the hook and the slide button are operated horizontal linear movement of the slide button, lifting doesn't occur while the top cover is closed. The slide button slides with the hook when the top cover is closed, and a shock due to the contact of the slide button with the hook is avoided.
