The invention relates to a device for processing electronic data in an access-protected manner. The inventive device comprises an electronic data processing device, especially a PC, having means for detecting electronic data of a first electronic document and for storing the data in a storage unit in a volatile or durable manner. Said unit is allocated to the data processing device. The first electronic document is provided with a predetermined document-specific data format consisting of a plurality of electronic streams which are linked by means of a tree, network, data base and/or folder structure. Said streams can be read and displayed as the first electronic document to a user along the tree, network, data base and/or folder structure and by means of a display unit of the data processing device. At least one stream is suitable for receiving and/or attaching hidden data which cannot be perceived by the user when the display unit displays the document. Said data, together with the first electronic document, can be stored in the storage unit. Means for detecting electronic data of a second electronic document which is at least partially protected against unauthorised access are provided. Means for embedding and/or attaching the protected data of the second electronic document in/on the at least one stream as hidden data are provided. Means for extracting the data of the second electronic document from the at least one stream and for displaying the second document to the user are provided, whereby extraction is carried out as a result of a decoding or authorisation signal.
