<p>An AC generator (200) includes a rotor (210), a cylindrical mandrel (220) and an annular stator (230) positioned coaxially such that the rotor (210) is radially innermost and the stator (230) is radially outermost. The mandrel (220) includes two groups of circumferentially spaced protrusions (240) projecting radially outwards from the cylinder (220), each group being adjacent a respective end thereof. The protrusions (240) are of a ferro-magnetic material and are shaped so as to receive and support windings (250, 260) of the generator (200). The mandrel (220), together with the windings (250, 260), is fixed to the stator (230) by an epoxy resin (270) therebetween. The provision of protrusions (240) of a ferro-magnetic material is advantageous in increasing the amount of ferro-magnetic material between the rotor (210) and the stator (230), thereby raising the saturation level of working flux and increasing the efficiency of the machine (200).</p> |
