A generally planar or sheet antenna comprising: a sheet of electrically insulating material (1), antenna feed means, and at least two pairs of lands (3, 5, 7, 9), each land in each pair being separated by a first substantially rectilinear gap (11) and being symmetrically disposed about the first gap axes, a land in the first pair (3, 5) being separated from a land in the second pair (7, 9) by a second substantially rectilinear gap (13), the second gap axis being substantially orthogonal to the first gap axis, wherein in the position where the first and second gap axes intersect, the lands being separated from one another by a distance substantially greater than the width of the first and second gaps. This invention provides a generally planar antenna which may be tuned to receive in a desired frequency range or band, thereby eliminating interference or disruption caused by broadcasts in other frequency bands encroaching on the received signal.
