<p>A novel pharmaceutical composition designed for sustained release of an effective amount of a drug over an extended period of time prepared in microcapsule or microsphere form is suggested. The composition comprises: at least one polypeptide which is a naturally occurring insuline like growth factor (IGF), a synthetically prepared material of the same type or synthetically prepared analogues of naturally occurring IGF;at least one stabilizing agent; at least one polymer hydrolysis modifying agent; and a biocompatible, biodegradable encapsulating polymer which is a poly(lactide-co-glycolide) copolymer. The lactide/glycolide molar ratio of the copolymer, its molecular weight, and the capsule diameter and the polymer hydrolysis modifying agent, are such that the composition exhibits sustained release of an effective amount of the polypeptide over a period of at least 3 to 4 weeks.</p> |
