PURPOSE: A motion estimator is provided to perform motion estimation at a high speed in the course of compressing a moving picture. CONSTITUTION: A motion estimator is provided with the first memory(200) divided into a memory(202) for a priory searched region and a memory(204) for an on-processing region, an SDA(Sum of Absolute difference) calculation part(210:PE), an interpolation part(212), an adder(220) and a buffer(222). The motion estimator also has 25 shift register(230), an SDA comparing and motion vector generating part(240), a 22 shift register(250), a DMA(Direct Memory Access) control part(260), a part(270) for controlling a motion estimation, and the second memory(280). The DMA control part(260) controls and classifies data to be stored in the priory searched region and in the on-processing region in the first memory(200). The DMA control part(260) also controls the data to be provided to the SDA calculation part(210) based on the processing of the part(270) for controlling the motion estimation. |
