PURPOSE: A shadow mask for a cathode ray tube is provided to divide the shadow mask as an effective area and an ineffective area by using a separating part having an elongate slot, thereby preventing a deformation of the shadow mask. CONSTITUTION: A shadow mask(20) has an effective area(20-1) on which a plurality of holes having a slot shape are formed and an ineffective area(20-2) which is formed on the outer line of the effective area, wherein the ineffective area does not have holes. A frame is welded and connected along the long side of the ineffective area to fix the shadow mask to a panel. The shadow mask is formed along the short side which does not be welded to the frame and includes a separating part having an elongate slot for dividing the effective area from the ineffective area.
