<p>The present invention relates to a device comprising a carrier and a polymeric coating physically adhered to the carrier and exposing functional groups at the surface of the material, wherein the functional groups are capable of binding to a ligand. The ligand is preferably a biologically active substance or molecule, having a function in biochemical and/or biological recognition, and is covalently linked to the functional groups that are exposed at the material's surface.
