ASSAY METHOD TO IDENTIFY S-PHASE CELLS ON CELL SECTIONS OR PERMEABILISED CELLS AND USES THEREOF

A method is disclosed which allows rapid and simple analysis of cells to identify those cells in S phase, and optionally additionally those in late G1 phase. The method involves incubating a sample of permeabilized cells or section of cells on a solid support with an elongation buffer which includes at least one labelled DNA precursor; and detecting those cells in said sample which have incorporated said labelled DNA precursor in replicated nuclear DNA. In a preferred embodiment, frozen sections of excised tissue are used.
