The control device (MP) is used for controlling the welding current generator (IS) coupled to the welding electrodes (E1,E2) and for controlling an electric motor drive (M) for operation of the welding tool (Z), provided with a resolver (RES). The control device incorporates continuous monitoring of the resolver signal and/or a motor current measuring signal (I (t)) for synchronised operation of the welding tool and timed activation of the welding current generator.
