Antioxidants for polyolefins have the formula <FORM:1106213/C3/1> where R1 is C1- 3 straight-chain alkyl, R2 is C10- 18 straight-chain alkyl and R1R2CH is C12- 20 alkyl. Exemplified polyolefins are polyethylene, polypropylene, poly(butene-1) and propylene/butene-1 copolymer.ALSO:Antioxidants for paraffin wax (see Example VIII) have the formula <FORM:1106213/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 is C1- 3 straight-chain alkyl, R2 is C10- 18 straight-chain alkyl and R1R2CH is C12- 20 alkyl.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1106213/C2/1> wherein R1 is C1- 3 straight-chain alkyl, R2 is C10- 18 straight-chain alkyl and R1R2CH is C12- 20 alkyl. These compounds are prepared by catalytic alkylation of phenol with the appropriate alkene. |
