PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce print miss due to removal of nozzle as much as possible at the time of day and night continuous operation or when the print cost is high. SOLUTION: The cleaning execution print amount setting section 65 of a printer host 10 determines a cleaning execution print amount depending on the print conditions of a job being printed. The cleaning execution print amount is set at a small value when the unit price of print sheet is high, the print resolution is high and the print time is long, or unattended continuous operation is performed. When a decision is made that the actual print amount exceeds the cleaning execution print amount, a cleaning execution timing deciding section 67 delivers a head cleaning command to a printer 30.
