SOLID MEDIUM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid medium absorbing large amount of water in a short time, having high water-absorbing rate, enabling the smearing of a large amount of specimen and suitable for the quick and accurate determination of the number of bacterial cells and provide its production method. SOLUTION: The method for the production of the solid medium comprises the dissolution of each component of the solid medium in more than prescribed volume of water, the solidification of the product and the drying of the solidified medium to remove the dissolution water to 70-200 vol.% of the prescribed volume. The present invention also discloses the solid medium produced by the above method.
