PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a graphitic material for metal plating and a graphitic member coated with a metal plating in which sealing treatment of the graphitic material forming a substrate is certainly carried out and generation of rust on the metal plating layer formed on the surface thereof is suppressed. SOLUTION: This graphitic material is obtained by impregnating the pore on the surface thereof with an acrylic monomer and polymerizing the acrylic monomer in the pore and curing to a gel state to seal the pore on the surface thereof by heating to 90-120 deg.C. The graphitic member is obtained by coating the surface thereof with the metal plating.
