PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a viscous sterilizing composition having a higher sterilizing activity than conventional compositions, capable of sustaining the sterilizing activity, soft to the skin, and suitable for practical applications. SOLUTION: This viscous sterilizing composition comprises a lower alcohol, a carboxyvinyl polymer, an alkanolamine, and water, wherein the composition contains at least one kind of emollient agent selected from a group comprising chlorhexidine gluconate, a succinic acid oligoester with polypropylene glycol, dioctyl succinate, and decyl succinate.
