Apparatus to coat the inner surface (6) of a hollow body (1) comprises a feed pipe (7) for process gas and a waste gas line (9) outside of the hollow body connected to a waste gas pipe (19). The waste gas pipe protrudes through an opening (5) and through a closure region (4) into a throat (3) in the operating position of the hollow body. The open inner end (20) of the waste gas pipe lies at a height of the longitudinal extension of the hollow body. The cross-section of the hollow body is larger than the cross-section of the closure region. Preferred Features: The feed pipe has a smaller first diameter (d) in the region of the throat of the hollow body than in the inside of the hollow body.
