The channel system(1) comprises a discharge channel(2) built materials such as concrete, chamotte or bricks while the water-repellent agent comprises a water-repellent impregnating agent to prevent water of condensation from being transported, as a result of capillary action of the wall of the discharge channel to an outer side of the discharge channel. The channel system also has an air supply(16) for supplying outside air to the discharge channel. The temperature of the combustion gases in the discharge channel is lowered, to about 50 degree centigrade, so that water vapor pressure in the discharge channel is lowered to prevent water vapor from being transported outside through the wall of the discharge channel and also to extend the life of the water-repellent impregnating agent. An Independent claim is also included for a method of adapting an existing channel system.
