PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate a motor at a faster speed by providing a smaller drive motor for a printing cylinder. SOLUTION: This apparatus for driving the printing cylinder comprises the printing cylinder 10 and a driver for the cylinder. The driver has a drive motor 40 connected to a sun gear 51 having a sun gear axis, and a planetary gear 52 rotating at a stationary planetary gear axis as a center to the sun gear axis. The planetary gear is driven by the sun gear. A ring gear 53 is mounted at a stationary position on the cylinder 10 and driven by the planetary gear.
