PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for closing a container having a cover with a drinking opening to be closed again so that a remaining liquid is not left in the container, particularly on a drinking area, and a protective cap for covering the drinking opening and also provide a device for carrying out the method in a series of processes in which the cover is supplied as a complete unit of the cover having the protective cap pressed for the purpose of closing the container and the closed drinking opening, and the container is cleaned from inside before the planned regular closing and then successively the cover is mounted on a bottle, and it is unavoidable to leave a cleaning liquid on interior forming components on the cover constituted of various members, particularly on a drinking area, in a cleaning process and a sterilizing process. SOLUTION: The cover with the open drinking opening is cleaned before a closing process, and then the open drinking cover in the state of closing the drinking opening is mounted on a mouth section of the container, and successively the protective cap is mounted on the cover.
