PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems that the conventional air conditioners in medical facilities and old person care facilities have no effective sterilization function in spite of an increase of accidents that patients and old persons are infected with bacteria or the like in the facilities, bacteria with resistance against a sterilizing method by chemicals appear, and no decisive sterilizing method against resistant bacteria is established yet. SOLUTION: The sterilization function can be applied to an air conditioner by using the normal-pressure steam at 60 deg.C or above for sterilizing the air. This air conditioner has a function to self-sterilize air passage faces in the device and it can kill bacteria by a sterilization operation even when the bacteria intrude during an operation stop. The clean living environment desired for sick therapy or old person care can be invariably maintained.
