PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retractable writing utensil, the display in the outer barrel of which can be changed. SOLUTION: This writing utensil is equipped with a refill 18, which is arranged in the outer barrel 10 and energized backwards, a rotary cam mechanism 22 consisting of a cam tube 24, which is arranged rotatably and movably back and forth in the outer barrel and controls the backward movement of the refill 18, a cam main body 26, which alternately shifts the cam tube 24 to its advanced position and to its retreated position through the rotation of the cam tube 24 by a certain angle caused through every advancement of the cam tube 24, and a cam bar 28 which can push the cam tube 24 forwards, a retractable body 30, which is retractably operably connected with the cam bar 28, and a rotary drum 32, which rotates in interlocking with the rotation of the cam tube 26 and on the outer peripheral surface of which displays such as characters, pictures or the like are applied. By providing a window 14a, through which the interior of the outer barrel 14 can be seen, in some part of the peripheral surface of the outer barrel 14, the displays on the rotary drum 32 can be seen through the window 14a. |
