CONSTITUTION: The device is composed of an electroluminescent device which comprises a transmissive resin 11 that disperses an contains fine area 12 of different double refraction characteristics and emits light by electroluminescent element through the polarized light diffusing film 1 having a refraction index difference Δn1, Δn2 between the fine area and the transmissive resin of less than 0.03 (Δn1) in the axial direction where the linear line polarized light shows maximum transmission factor and 0.03 to 0.5 (Δn2) in the direction crossing at right angle with the Δn1 direction, a polarized light plane luminescent device composed of the above electroluminescent device which is surface emitting luminescent and emits a polarized light, and a liquid crystal display device having liquid cell disposed at the light emitting side of the polarized light surface luminescent device. By these arrangement, the electroluminescence light enters the polarized light diffusing film and the linear line polarized light having a oscillation plane in the direction of Δn2 is diffused and emitted efficiently to the outside of the device outside the total reflection condition.
