PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem where the difficulty in downsizing of a diaphragm device of a type, to open and close a diaphragm by linearly driving of two vanes. SOLUTION: The light quantity adjusting device is constituted by providing the device with a first drive member 13b, which is connected directly to an actuator 13a and is rotationally driven and a second drive member 13c, which is connected directly to this first drive member and both of plural light-shielding members 13d and 13e for opening and closing a light passage port and is rotated by the operation of the first drive member to drive the light-shielding members, then setting a distance h1 between a straight line L extending in a direction orthogonal with the optical axis direction and the driving direction of the light- shielding members through the center O of the light passage port and the center of rotation of the first drive member at a distance h2 between the straight line as described and the center of rotation of the second drive member or below.
