摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a satisfactorily homogeneous air-fuel mixture even when a large quantity of fuel required in homogeneous combustion in a cylinder injection type spark ignition internal combustion engine capable of executing stratified combustion of compression stroke fuel injection and homogeneous combustion of suction stroke fuel injection. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine comprises a first fuel injection valve 71 and second injection valve 72 arranged on the upper part of a cylinder in order to directly inject fuel into the cylinder as atomized fuel having an extended shape to the tip. The first fuel injection valve has a first injection depression angle TH1 allowing the injection of fuel into a cavity 8 formed on the top surface of a piston in the latter half of compression stroke, and the second fuel injection valve has a second injection depression angle TH2 smaller than the first injection depression angle. The fuel is injected in the latter half of compression stroke by use of the first fuel injection valve in the stratified combustion, the fuel is injected in suction stroke by use of both the first fuel injection valve and the second fuel injection valve when a large quantity of fuel is required in homogeneous combustion, and the first fuel injection valve injects the fuel mainly in the later half of the suction stroke.
