PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line lighting apparatus with a simple structure which can hold back the production cost as lower as possible without lowering detection accuracy by allowing irradiation of an object to be inspected with very fine linear light even when an LED light source is employed. SOLUTION: This apparatus is provided with an LED source 1 having a constricted type semiconductor light emitting element controlled by a dimmer control part 51 and a cylindrical lens 5 which condenses emission light 2 from the LED light source 1 to from linear light 2b on the surface 4a of an object to be inspected. A reflection image of the surface of the object to be inspected is taken by a CCD camera 6 to be processed by an image analysis part 57.
