PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the authenticity discrimination precision of a coin having a latent image. SOLUTION: A coin discrimination device is provided with a light emitting element 20, which irradiates a coin C as an authenticity discrimination object with light, and an annular light reception part 10 which receives diffracted light from the coin C of light radiated from the light emitting element 20, and the annular light reception part 10 is arranged so as to face the coin and is comprised of plural light receiving elements 11 to 14 which are arranged at equal intervals along the peripheral direction. An output ratio of plural light receiving elements 11 to 14 with respect to the coin C as the authenticity discrimination object and that to an authentic coin having a latent image are compared with each other, and authenticity of the coin is discriminated by coincidence/non- coincidence between them.
