PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption and to extend an operation time. SOLUTION: A video signal processing circuit 12 performs prescribed processing of an output image signal of an image pickup element 10. A switch 28 connects a line to a VTR 14 side in an animation recording mode and the line to a still picture memory 22 side in a still picture recording mode. A sound signal processing circuit 18 performs recording processing of an output of a microphone 16 and applies the output to the VTR 14. A cassette detection switch 30 detects the presence/absence of a magnetic cassette tape for the VTR 14. A CPU 24 selects the animation recording mode, connects the switch 28 to the VTR 14 side and also turns on a power supply control switch 20 when animation recording is designated by a mode changeover switch 26 and the switch 30 detects that a magnetic cassette tape exists in the VT 14, and selects the still picture recording mode, connects the switch 28 to the memory 22 side and also turns on the switch 20. Only when the switch 20 is on, the circuit 18 is supplied with power.
