<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively delete redundant information when a data stream that a digital video signal is compressed and encoded is recorded in a recording medium. SOLUTION: A latch circuit 300 extracts the quantized scale code (QSC) of a slice header from MPEG ES and supplies it to a comparing circuit 303. A VLD 301 decodes the variable length code of the macro-block (MB) of MPEG ES, extracts QSC when it is included, and supplies it to the comparing circuit 303. The two supplied QSCs are compared by the comparator circuit 303 and, the code length of the QSC of the MB is made to be zero be a signal NO- NEED-MQ based on the comparison result when both match. Since variable length encoding is performed based on the code length in the VLC 306, the QSC of MB is erased between the QSCs being superimposed and existing in the slice header and the MB. When the QSC of the MB is different from that of the slice header, the QSC of the MB is compared with that of the succeeding MB and the one that appears afterward is preferentially used when they are equal.</p> |
