PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently inspect lens surfaces. SOLUTION: A CCD camera 20 and a ring light source 23 are set with a finder 12 held therein. An imaging lens 22 of the CCD camera 20 is focused to meet a focus on the surface of the objective lens 15. The CCD camera 20 moves in a direction of an optical axis of the finder 12. The ring light source 23 moves in the direction of the optical axis of the finer 12 to retreat from an imaging range of the CCD camera 20. The surface of the objective lens 15 is imaged by the CCD camera 20. The obtained image signal is sent to an image processor 21, so that the presence/absence of defects is judged. Thereafter, the CCD camera 20 moves to focus on the surface of the eyepiece 16, and the same process is carried out. The inspection becomes efficient because two lenses can be inspected without disassembling a unit body 10.
