PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an axle sensor, capable of stably detecting the passage of the axle of a vehicle. SOLUTION: When a wheel of a vehicle treads and presses an elastic body 13 of an axle sensor, a treaded and pressed part 13A of the elastic body 13 is compressed, an optical fiber 16 is deflected in accompaniment therewith, and the light transmission efficiency is changed. Accordingly, the passage of an axle of the vehicle through the axle sensor can be detected. Here the treaded and pressed part 13A of the elastic body 13 is accommodated in a recessed part 11A, and since the wheel is kept in contact with an upper edge of the recessed part 11A, and the elastic body 13 is not compressed farther, the optical fiber 16 is deflected constantly and in similar manner regardless of a weight of the vehicle (tread pressure). As a result, the excess deformation of the optical fiber 16 can be prevented, and reliability can be improved.
