PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emphasize saturation without generating color painting out. SOLUTION: Correction is not performed when the color difference data of one pixel is maximum saturation or minimum saturation which can be taken by the saturation data of the one pixel, and a saturation correction curve is defined so as to perform correction when the color difference data is intermediate saturation between the maximum saturation and the minimum saturation. Even though color difference data Cb and Cr are subjected to saturation correction, the color difference data Cb and Cr subjected to the saturation correction are saturated to prevent color painting out from occurring.
