PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source unit and spot-light source unit that solve the problem of arrangement of a light exit in constitution of lateral-emission type. SOLUTION: The spot-light source unit 1 is divided into a drive portion 2 consisting of a lower housing 20 and elements of a drive system installed in interior thereof and a light source portion 3 consisting of an upper housing 30 and elements (including discharge tube, radiating mirror, etc.), of an optical system installed in interior thereof. And these lower and upper housings 20 and 30 are removably constituted that position of an exit opening 13 installed on the front face 30a of the upper housing 30 is constituted, so as to be mounted in either of two opposite directions, with respect to the lower housing 20. According to this, the light source unit that the exit emission port 13 is located on the face identical or opposite to an operating panel 14 can be constituted from the same components.
