PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect refreshment-objective data in a short time in a data refreshing method for preventing the data of a recording medium from vanishing. SOLUTION: The recording medium 6, a head 4 and a control unit 30 for performing the refresh process are provided for this method. In the refresh operation, the reproducing output level of the objective data is measured by the output of the head 4 to extract the data required for the refreshment. Then, the data required for the refreshment are recorded again to the recording medium 6 by the above head 4. The refreshment-objective data are accurately detected since the level of actual data is observed and the decrease of the storage capacity is prevented since the reference area is not required.
