Application protocol data units (APDU) are routed in a universal serial bus so that a portable electronic object such as a smart card (CA) can be identified by a terminal, such as a micro-computer (TE), as peripheral. The heading (CLA-P2) and the data field (DC), when it exists, of each command are encapsulated in the data fields of data packets respectively of downlink transactions (OUT/SETUP, DATA0, ACK; OUT, DATA1/0, ACK). The data field (DR), when it exists, the tail (SW1, SW2) of each reply (RES2) are encapsulated in the data fields of data packets (DATA1) of at least an uplink transaction (IN, DATA1, ACK). As a result of said bus link, the rate between terminal and electronic object is higher and more portable electronic objects can be connected to the terminal.
