PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for producing a spiral electrode group allowing the winding of a band electrode group while automatically varying the feeding speed of the band electrode group to the optimum speed for unnecessary tension not to be applied thereto, in response to the variations of thickness in electrode plate materials. SOLUTION: A tape attracting drum 37 for attracting and holding one electrode plate 1, supported in a freely rotatable manner and formed of a thin metal foil tape, in the state of being wound on the outer periphery, and a winding core 33 with a separator 2 inserted in a slit 57 parallel to the axial center are put in contact with each other under preset pressure with their axial centers in parallel arrangement. In this condition, the winding core 33 rotatably driven to synchronously rotate the tape attracting drum 37 together with the winding core 33 with frictional force applied between the outer periphery of the winding core 33 or the separator 2 wound thereon and one electrode plate 1.
