The mechanism has a spectacle frame support (1) which can be moved along three planes (X,Y,Z). It has a nose shaped part (2), on which the spectacle nose pressure pads (9) rest, for centering the spectacles on the support, a pressure piece (3) pressing on the interior face of the lens (11) to be measured and a movable clamp (14) which presses the lens (11) against the piece (13) so as to immobilize the lens in a position normal to the optical axis of the measuring unit : The nose part (2) can be moved in a vertical direction, with respect to the support (1), under a spring action. An electro-magnet (7) which automatically holds the nose (2) in a position corresponding to pressure point of the nose frame (8) on the support (1). The support (1) is inclined with respect to the horizontal, spectacle stops (6) on the support to hold the spectacles in place after they have been slid onto the support. The support can be displaced along an axis (Z) so as to apply the lens against a pressure cup (13) of the measuring device. The method includes the following automatic operations: (a) find the optical center of a first lens (11); place the lens (11) in a measuring position where its optical center coincides with the measuring axis (12) of the measuring instrument, holding the lens in the measuring position; measure the power of the lens; move the approximate optical center of the second lens to the measuring axis; find the optical center of the second lens; place the second lens in a measuring position where its optical center coincides with the measuring axis; hold the second lens in position, and; measure the power of the second lens. |
