PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transmission power control method for a radio communication apparatus capable of suppressing useless power consumption and dealing with high speed communications as well. SOLUTION: This transmission power control method is provided with a step for immediately increasing transmission power without waiting for reception of an ACK signal and a NACK signal after data transmission, a step for transmitting the same data again in the NACK signal reception and holding the transmission power level in the data retransmission, a step for lowering the transmission power in the the next data transmission by a prescribed amount when the NACK signal has not been received in the past in the ACK signal reception, and a step for setting the transmission power at the time of the next data transmission to the transmission power level held in the NACK reception when the NACK signal is received in the past in the ACK signal reception.
